Fire prevention and safety is the first step!

Part of our mission is dedicated toward ongoing community education and fire prevention. Establishing and practicing fire safety inside and outside the home is vital, and is everyone’s job. Below are some basic and important practices you can make sure are established as your and your loved ones regular practices.

Make a home fire escape plan.

Make a home escape plan.
Draw a map of each level of your home. Show all doors and windows.
Go to each room and point to the two ways out.
Practice the plan with everyone in your household.

Teach children how to escape from fire.

Teach your children how to escape on their own in case you cannot help them.
Make sure they know how to unlock and open doors.
Instruct them to exit the building quickly to a designated meeting place.
Make sure they can open windows, remove screens in the event doors are not usable.
Make sure they are able to exit through the window openings.

Have a 3-foot safety zone around heaters.

Know where to put home smoke alarms.

Have smoke alarms in every sleeping room.
Place smoke dictators outside each separate sleeping area.
Place smoke detectors on every level of the home, including the basement.
